Haiti Crime

I’m sure that you, like me, are in shock and awe at the devastation of the earthquake in Haiti, a country that had almost nothing going for it before the quake.  We watch the TV reports, and would all love to be there to help out, but that isn’t possible.  Those of us who still have a job and can afford it contribute our $5 or $20 or $100 or whatever, and hope that some part of our donations get to those who need them.

But more help is needed than our modest donations can provide, not only for the rescue effort, but for Haiti’s rebuilding in the future.  Our country needs to pitch in with an all-out, no-sacrifice-is-too-great, effort.  Of course, our own economy is also in dire straits after 8 years of B&C, but wait, I have an idea.

For the past eight, yes 8, years, the US has been pouring countless billions into what I call the “Stan” wars: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Iraquistan, Turquistan, yes, even Palestan, with little success.  I doubt if there is anyone who even knows how many billion dollars we have invested in these efforts, not to mention the lives lost.  So here is my plan.

Why not declare a cease-fire in all our current wars for one year, just one year, and divert all or some of the $billions we would have blown away into helping out some of these less fortunate peoples, starting with Haiti?  Why not use these monies to rebuild, rather than destroy?  Why not give it a try?  Perhaps we could even convince the Talibans and Al-Quadas and Kurds to lay down their arms and join us, maybe volunteer their suicide bombers in clearing rubble and rebuilding earthquake and Tsunami devastated cities.

And once the present emergency is under control, perhaps we could even establish a world-wide disaster control team, maybe call it the “United Nations” or something similar.  Set up full-time medical and supply teams, ready to respond anywhere, any time in the world to fight earthquake, hurricane, flood, or famine.  Probably this would require much less in funding than our current high-tech wars, and do much more to restore America’s battered world image. Perhaps such a program would even create some jobs in our own country and help to restore our own economy in the process.  Sounds like a Win-Win situation all around.  Let’s Give Peace a Try!

  1. And now the news of flooding in Peru on top of the earthquake and the floods in California. And probably all the Peruvian relief people are in Haiti. Are the Gods really angry at us? Is the end of the world as we know it really at hand? Details at 6.

  2. I¡¦ve been exploring for a bit for any high quality articles or blog posts on this kind of space . Exploring in Yahoo I finally stumbled upon this web site. Reading this info So i am glad to show that I have an incredibly excellent uncanny feeling I found out exactly what I needed. I so much no doubt will make sure to do not disregard this website and provides it a look on a constant.

  3. And now it is announced that the cholera epidemic in Haiti that has killed thousands was probably introduced by a UN Relief Team. Does the madness never cease?
